dancing from wires

Best birthday gift ever…my husband bought me a ticket to see Blue Lapis Light. I saw them tonight and they performed in an empty power station and they were amazing and beautiful. There are many things to love about the show, but one thing I love about any creative endeavor is how it inspires me. Watching dancers gives me ideas for writing. Seeing paintings gives me ideas for writing. Listening to music, watching a movie…on and on.

So often we think people should belong to one artistic tradition or another. I’ve heard people get angry over a writer try to make music or an actor try to write a novel as if creative expression should forever fit in one genre or category. Who do these people think they are daring to reach for a different label? Well, I love writing and making art and dancing…(if I started believing in reincarnation, I’d want to come back as a dancer–no joke). Seeing the dancers tonight spin on wires up at dangerous heights made me wonder what I’m afraid of.

Anyway, I’m in danger of rambling (blogging does encourage such behavior) and my point is (if I have to have one) there’s no telling where inspiration can come from. Get out of your house and see what’s going on. You never know. There might be dancers spinning from the ceiling of a power station. Who wants to miss that?
