How has your week been?
This week involved a big argument. I can’t write about it yet, but it consumed much of the week.
But then today, in the midst of errands and required phone calls, we picked up our Sadie’s ashes.

I’m not the sort of person who wants to keep the ashes. That’s not to disagree with those who do. I just don’t. We’ll wait for a beautiful day and bury her. Sweet Sadie.
What if her ashes stayed on our mantel until we ourselves died? What then? Her ashes end up in the trash? Forgotten in the back of a closet? Perhaps that doesn’t matter. What do ashes know about anything beyond the container they rest in?
Today is a chilly drizzly day, so Sadie’s ashes wait in my office on a shelf I have for special things. Her ashes are in a clear plastic bag in a dark blue satin bag in a very dark blue gift-like bag. Sweet Sadie. She is so much more than what can be contained. Aren’t we all?
