I don’t think my head has actually been in the clouds–metaphorically or otherwise. I’ve been too grounded in the news. Or sucked into the news like a 1970s tv character into quicksand. Except the news is real. No director is going to yell cut and end the scene. If only…
But between the destruction and horror, I’ve been getting my students to create a newsletter! I’m not sharing the newsletter because it’s a newsletter by the students for the students, not for random people on the internet. In any case, the process has been interesting, and I’ve been reminded that not all young people are tech savvy. People may assume that a fashionably dressed young person who is texting and watching TikTok understands how to actively do all the tech things, but that is not the case. The students may not believe me, but I keep telling them that learning how to write a bio, write a web-friendly article, and generally use a platform like Substack might prove useful in the future. And make no mistake, I’m learning too. It’s one thing to use Substack on my own. It’s another thing to share admin responsibilities with a group of people who sometimes know and sometimes don’t know what they’re doing. I mean, I often don’t know what I’m doing, so we’re figuring it out together.
Oh! I saw the movie Flow. It’s beautiful. Sad in some ways. Uplifting in others. There are no humans in the film (though humans have definitely been in the film’s world–they’re just gone) and the animals don’t talk. They act like the animals they are, only slightly, but believably, on occasion acting out of character. I hesitate to even say that because everything they do feels in character and real. It’s only later when you think about a few things, you might wpnder.
Thanks for reading! (If you come over here through my Facebook author/artist page, I think I’m going to delete that account. Just FYI.)
