Three strikes you’re out, but third time’s a charm.

Three is a magic number. All good things come in threes–and bad things too. There are three wise men in the bible and three witches in Macbeth. Genie’s give us three wishes and the Christianity gives us unity in three. There is birth, living, and death. Heaven, earth, and hell. Youth, adulthood, and old age. Past, present, and future. The truth, the whole, and nothing but the truth. Red, white, and blue. Fairy tales can have three sisters or three little pigs. Heros have three tasks. We have trilogies and triangles (especially in love). We have the three Rs and three-ring binders and three day weekends. There is the third way, the third reich (like I said, some threes are bad), and the third world. Three strikes and you’re out, but third time’s a charm.

Though my novel can’t keep company with much of the above (outside the three-ring binder), I’ll still staying with tradition (such as it is) and posting the first three chapters of my novel (over there in the sidebar). The novel is kind of David Lynch meets fairy tale meets mess.

So, here’s to not striking out. And here’s to charm.
