My novel is set in the summer of 1985. That summer I loved Howard Jones and I was about to start my senior year of high school.
If you were around in the ’80s, what did you love and what did you hate?
* * *
My novel, The Blue Jar, will be released as an e-book this October 12th! Yea! With a huge thanks to Plum Tree Books. A dream I had well before 1985 is about to come true.
I loved Duran Duran and Madonna. I wanted my MTV, but we lived in the boondocks where there was no cable. Things were bad at home in the summer of ’85, but I had no idea things were going to get even worse. I sketched and read a lot and went to cockfights. Wouldn’t trade it, but I’m glad I never ever have to go back there.
Also, I was struck by how much you look like your kid in this.
Really? Hmm. Okay. I’ll take that as a compliment.
I grew up in the boondocks too, and I still remember only certain lucky friends had cable. It was a big deal to get to watch MTV! Ha. Well, Sherri, I’m glad we made it out alive.
Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, ABC, there was some great music out then though Adam and the Ants wasn’t my cup of tea. The idea of New Romantics appealed to me, it gave me hope that the sentiments of the 60’s hadn’t died.
Loved Tears for Fears! And Talk Talk. Unfortunately, I’m not sure about the sentiments of the 60s these days.
Can’t wait for the release and to hear all the music you have ready. Should I ask my friend the DJ to get involved?
I’m going to message you about that this evening. And yes, do ask him! That could be something fun.
I graduated graduate school in 1984 and started a job seeing psychotherapy patients in a children’s hospital. I loved it. I was already living with my future husband. – Gloria Garfunkel
That doesn’t sound like a bad time.
I’m surprised your first book isn’t a fairy tale. I also love your art. You are so multi-talented. Gloria Garfunkel
Thank you, Gloria. I think my novel has fairy tale elements, but this wasn’t written before I wrote more obvious fairy tale type stories.
