It’s been a long day, and I had a hard time turning away from the news to write anything. A story felt impossible, so I wrote something that is for my fictional world, but might work in this one. (With one line, after I wrote it, I realized there’s a Leonard Cohen quote that is similar. So, it must’ve been floating about in my brain.)

She listened to their stories.
She comforted and cradled in
Endangered territory.

She brought no judgment with her
But carried an open mind.
They asked if she were magic.
“It’s not witchcraft to be kind.”

She helped repair their dreams
In the cracks their light shone through.
And she gave them many needed gifts.
The greatest this, “I believe you true.”
