Well into September

The husband and I took a short trip to see a friend. We spent half of one day and half of the next day, walking around the town square, visiting shops, stopping for coffee and ice cream. As much as I dislike being in crowds, I do enjoy a downtown space where people are walking into local places and spotting delightful things. And it doesn’t matter who anybody is. Right? We’re all just sharing in a community.

I bought a used copy of a Tarot book I’ve been wanting for ages. I could’ve wandered around the used bookstore for ages. It’s a minor miracle I bought only one book. My to-be-read pile is giving me serious side-eye. But this is research…hahahaha!

The next morning, we went to the downtown maker’s market, and there I bought a pair of earrings for what I call my October collection. Sure, I wear witchy, magic-inspired jewelry all year round (because for me it’s a life not just a season), but it’s fun to have specifically Halloween-esque earrings everyday to wear through October. I’ve got ghosties and cauldrons, bats and cats, skeletons, Tarot cards. and planchettes. And now I’ve got a pair of copper-colored hands, suitable for a fortuneteller.

That morning was especially amazing because the temperature had dropped and people could wear their hoodies. One things about living in this part of Texas is that September rarely ever feels like fall. Or at least, not the lovely fall seen in movies with crisp chill breezes, scarves, and orange leaves flitting about. We didn’t get the scarves or the leaves, but at least there was a that delightful shiver that promised cooler temperatures could still exist. It was in the upper 90s soon enough, but I enjoyed the moment while it lasted.

If you recognize the place where I went, let me know!

Stay safe out there, y’all. We gotta keep showing up for community and finding delight in the everyday.

Thanks for reading.

And if you’re up for art in the mail and helping a writer out, join us on Patreon. It helps me keep on keeping on. And I’ll send you little art prints and zines.

October 1st I’ll send out my newsletter–spooky edition!

And, of course, you probably need more art in your life. And I’ve got art here.
