I love this character.

People falling in love with fictional characters never ceases to amaze me. This type of love seems especially common for characters once they’ve been in a film or tv show and not merely in a book. Well, unless the book is a comic. Something about seeing the character takes hold of people more often in a way reading the character does not.

Although, you might feel differently. Have you ever dressed up as a fictional character? If so, who and why?

One reason I love ComicCon is the cos players. I love the passion, dedication, and creativity people display. I wonder what it is like for the creators of these characters to see them walking around. I read an interview with Susanna Clarke, the author of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

Clarke talked about how it felt when she went to the set and saw her creations moving about in the world. Indeed. I can only imagine. Or dream.

Lately, a new character has hit the scene–Imperator Furiosa. Have you seen Mad Max Fury Road?

People are already dressing like Furiosa, and I don’t blame them one bit. If this were the year I had chemo head, I’d dress up as her for Halloween. Money says, this Halloween will see many Furiosas. I hope a group of friends somewhere is already planning to dress up as Furiosa and the five wives.

So, what character have you recently fallen in love with?

  1. I have fallen in love with many characters through my lifetime! I find myself drawn to strong female characters. Probably because I wish I were more like them! I love Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta. I love the sisters on Charmed and I also love Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds. Penelope I love because she is strong willed, smart, colorful and never afraid to be who she really is inside and out. Kay Scarpetta is a doctor AND a lawyer and works with the FBI often to solve crimes. And, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to be an ass kicking super witch that also happens to be beautiful and has fabulous clothes?

  2. Well, in the last three months or so I have written 150 poems about Xena: Warrior Princess. I think it is because we see something in the characters that we recognize or that we would like to be like: strong, honorable, loyal, smart, things like that.
