Dear Llama

Sometimes terrible news distracts me from my writing. I don’t mean terrible news affecting me directly, but nightmares visited upon friends, acquaintances, or strangers. You might think that working so much with words meant you had just the right words for any situation. I don’t find this to be the case.

We have many stories of magic words. Magic words change reality, deliver wishes, or save the day. It’s not that words in real life can’t cast spells. Poems, love letters, and sincere apologies work wonders. But what words work in the face of death? Especially the death of a child?

I don’t know those words. Not today.
