My Ordinary Friday
Dear Internet, Today is an ordinary day. So far, anyway. I've spent time reading articles on dying from cancer and on things you should learn in design school. I've replied to posts on Facebook. I've done laundry and had several cups of coffee. I'm still drinking coffee. I've got to get the kiddo to do …
The Dreaded Could-Have-Been
I do my best to avoid the Could-Have-Been Monster. Who isn't familiar with it? Who sitting alone late a night staring at a screen of one kind or another hasn't felt it lurking in the shadows reaching for a hunched over shoulder? It is a patient monster, never really giving up, always there waiting for …
An Open Letter To WordPress
I’m reblogging because I agree. The changes don’t make my life easier. The changes come across as change for the sake of change. “Look! We changed something!” I’ve long liked WordPress, but I liked it better before.
Dear WordPress,
I am loath to write yet another letter to you, since I typically prefer spending my time writing actual blog posts, but the thing is, I’ve been bitching to you on Twitter and in your forums to absolutely no avail, so maybe you’ll pay attention to a blog post. It’s not likely, but hey, you never know.
Please, stop. Just put down whatever you’re working on and stop with the futzing. You have been tinkering under my hood long enough and you know what? Not one of the “improvements” you’ve made is actually an improvement at all.
Below, you will find explanations as to why your improvements aren’t improvements sorted conveniently by feature.
Post Editor
First, there’s this “Beep beep boop” editor thing with less than half the functionality or the old editor, which thankfully you haven’t taken away entirely yet. I am waiting for the other shoe…

Am I Old Yet?
The other evening I watched a documentary on Netflix--Andrews Jenks, Room 335. Have you seen it? A young 20-something man moves into a retirement community in what must be Florida. I grew up in Florida surrounded by retirement communities. I also spent a great deal of my childhood with my grandmother. Getting along with older …
Speaking of Failure
Many things inspire me. As you know, the Internet contains a vast amount of creativity. Every day I see beautiful things, lovely films, charming images, quirky poems, and on and on. Yes, I realize it harbors many horrors, but that's not where I wish to spend my time. Anyway, I see talented people everywhere. Not …
The New Year and Other Nonsense
I love the New Year. Do you? I don't party hard. I don't dress up in a sparkly dress or dance all night drinking champagne. The last couple of years, I have gone to a friend's house to have fun with a group of grownups and children. I like being able to take my son …
Some of us have reached another holiday.
Not everyone loves Christmas. Not everyone celebrates this holiday. Not everyone lives where Christmas falls in winter. Not everyone is happy during this sparkling, partying time of year. Some souls who were here to celebrate last year, are not with us this time around. And some of us who are rejoicing now will not join …

Temper Tantrums and the Social Media Vortex
I remember the first time I realized a classmate hadn't invited me to her party. My mother pointed out that no one was obligated to invite me. My real friends would invite me to their parties, but that the best thing I could do was like being with myself. She told me the guest list …
